Lockwood Folly is on the Myrtle Beach Golf Trail. It is the furthest north of all the golf courses. It is actually closer to Wilmington, North Carolina than to Myrtle Beach. So, to many of you, it will seem like an off-the-beaten path treasure you wish you knew about before.
George Kelley, the President of the Lockwood Folly Board of Directors, gives us a tour of the property, highlighting so many reasons why so many people become members and residents.

Beautiful Location: Lockwood Folly is situated on the banks of the Lockwood Folly River, offering stunning views of the water and the surrounding landscape. The area is known for its natural beauty, with miles of pristine beaches, parks, and nature preserves. You don’t need to be a golfer. This is great for hiking, boating, and fishing.
Golf Course: Lockwood Folly Country Club is a golfer’s paradise, with an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Willard Byrd. Coastal Catering and Events
The reason: Coastal Catering and Events and its owner Joe Caldropoli. Joe is legendary in these parts. Not only does he run the restaurant, but his catering service is used for events, like weddings, at the clubhouse here and at other golf courses in the area.
But Joe also caters events from Wilmington to Myrtle Beach all year long. Beach vacation visitors will hire Joe and his staff to feed them at their beach front cottages.

Location: Lockwood Folly is surrounded by lush greenery and mature trees, creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere. The 18th hole offers a great backdrop. While you are putting to close out your round, you will want photos to remember it. But as Tony demonstrated, the 18th can swallow a lot of golf shots as you approach the green. Still, with two well-played shots, you could reach this par-5 in 2-shots and have an eagle putt.
Challenging Design: Don’t get mesmerized totally by the beauty. Lockwood Folly was designed by Willard Byrd and is known for its challenging layout. The course is a par-72 and measures 6,862 yards from the back tees. You will need to use all of your skills to navigate the course’s water hazards, bunkers, and undulating greens.
Variety of Holes: The course has several doglegs, blind shots, and elevated greens that require precise shot-making. There are also several risk-reward opportunities that will reward golfers who take on the challenge.
Well-Maintained Course: It is in pristine condition year-round. We’ve played here in winter.
Friendly Staff: From the pro shop to the restaurant, the staff is always ready to assist golfers with any needs they may have. You feel like a member.
